Biography

Occupation: Redactor de El Mercurio durante 15 años. El 4 de noviembre de 1886 fue elegido académico de número miembro de la Academia Chilena de la Lengua, correspondiente de la Real Academia Española.[1]

Manuel was baptised on 24 December 1822 in El Sagrario, Santiago, Santiago, Chile. He was the son of Ventura Blanco Encalada and Nicolasa Cuartin Morales.[2]

His siblings were:

Manuel (22) married Elisa Viel Toro Zambrano (22) (born about 1822; daughter of Benjamin Viel Gometz and Maria Luisa Josefa de las Mercedes Toro Guzman) in 1845 [3]. They had 11 children.

Manuel and Francisca del Carmen O'Carrol Herbert (born on April 8, 1829 in Chillan, Chile; daughter of Michael (Carrol) O'Carrol and Isabel Herbert) had 5 children.

Manuel died at the age of 67 on 26 March 1890. Manuel was buried in Cementerio General, Santiago, Chile.[4][5]
